I'm probably going to be posting a lot about my adventures in origfic over the next few months. Come July, I'm going to participate in Camp Nanowrimo once again and this time I am actually determined to finish with a decent (and complete) first draft of a story that I have been working on for the past three years. (Not a solid three years, but that's how long it's been since I first had the idea.) I've probably talked about First Contact before, though it was probably under another name. This working title isn't much better, but there you have it.
Anyhows, I downloaded Scapple the other day - an amazing app by the same people who made Scrivener, which I use all the time - and had a lot of fun creating a visual outline of my story yesterday.

It still needs some work but I'm super proud of it so far and look! So pretty!
So I did that yesterday and then today I started working on character development. I've had some of these characters running through my head for three years but others have only recently moved to prominence in the plot when they'd been stuck on the sidelines for so long. Biggest change was cutting a character that had been there right from the beginning. The fact that I wasn't as sad about it as I felt I ought to be was only reassurance that it was the right move to make.
So part of this character development today involved writing a handful of 3 Sentence Fics for everyone. So I thought I'd share some - one for each character.

Kennedy, middle-name
“State your name for the record, please.”
“Kennedy Blythe.”
The officer gave her a long, hard look until Kennedy relented, “Kennedy Adrienne Blythe - but don’t spread it around.”

Logan, work
He didn’t really care for the job and he’d never stressed much about money, but his mother had insisted that sixteen was old enough to go without holding a job of some sort. So he clocked in the hours and saved up the money and kept his complaints to himself. But sometimes, during the longest shifts when it felt like he would never escape the monotony of data-entry work, Logan would remind himself that one day he would achieve a position that was varied and interesting and - just possibly - allowed him to travel the world.

Cameron, childhood memories
She’d scraped her knee within five minutes of the training wheels coming off her bike. Logan hadn’t laughed, had just helped her up with solemn eyes and assured her that everyone falls - it was just a matter of time until she got the hang of it.
“Here, hold onto my hand as you try again,” he suggested, and laid his hand on the bar so she could rest hers on top and steer at the same time.
~~~
Tertia, most important thing to happen
She’d graduated at the top of her class at the Reinvoke Academy of Cultural Studies with offers for positions at multiple renowned research facilities located throughout the galaxy. In her valedictorian address, Tertia had spoken of all the great and wonderful opportunities that lay ahead.
Later, she would think bitterly that it had taken real talent to single-handedly destroy those dreams in less than two years.
Rgsthk, scarf
The scarf was twice as long as he was tall, which wasn’t difficult given how short he was. Used to the warmer climates of his home, Rgsthk wore the scarf indoors and out, only ever removing it in the comfort of his own home where the thermostat was always turned on high and there were no prying eyes. Standing in his bedroom before the mirror, Rgsthk unwound the scarf and rubbed a finger over the pincers that extended from his mouth, thinking longingly of his own people and wondering if he would ever return.
